Doctors Instagram for doctors: what to post, and what to avoid
Patients already look for health answers on Instagram. The question is whether they find yours. Here's what works for doctors, based on what our doctor members post.
Why it matters
When a patient has watched you explain their condition clearly, they arrive already trusting you. One clear reel can also reach parents, patients and peers far beyond your city.
Three formats that build trust
1. Myth busting
Clear up what patients get wrong. One of our members, a nutrition expert, posted a reel busting diet myths that reached over a lakh people.
2. Simple how‑tos
Practical advice people save and share. A paediatrician's reel on preparing ragi for babies crossed 1.2M views, because it was useful and simple.
3. Explaining a condition
From melasma to thyroid, explain it in plain words. Skip the jargon and answer the question a patient would actually ask.
What to avoid
- Promising cures or results. Teach, don't advertise.
- Diagnosing in comments or DMs. Point people to a proper consultation.
- Sharing patient details. Never, even without a name.
- Chasing trends that don't fit you. Your credibility is the brand.
Always follow the guidelines of your medical council, and approve everything that goes out under your name.
How much time it takes
Less than most doctors expect. A few focused hours a week is enough, often batched on a free afternoon between OPD days.
